A guide to Tinybird's new pricing model

Tinybird has updated its pricing to be more predictable and flexible. Learn what's new with Tinybird's pricing, and learn how to migrate to a new plan.

Tinybird has updated its pricing. The new pricing is designed to be more predictable, more flexible, and more aligned with the value that you get from Tinybird.

Here's everything you need to know about the new pricing, including what the new plans include, how it affects your Workspaces, and when you need to migrate to a new plan.

TL;DR

  • Long-live the Free plan. Tinybird still offers a time-unlimited, no-credit-card-required Free plan.
  • Goodbye "processed data". Pricing is now based on vCPU hours, not processed data, for more predictability.
  • Pick your plan and scale on demand. Choose a plan size and scale up or down as needed.
  • New: Organizations for all plans. Manage billing & user admin across all Workspaces in one place.
  • Migration deadline. All existing Pro Workspaces must be migrated to a new Developer plan by April 29th, 2025.

New pricing plans

Build → Free

The legacy Build plan is now simply called the Free plan.

Once you create an Organization, your existing Build plan Workspaces will use the new Free plan automatically.

The Free plan has the same basic limits as the legacy Build plan:

  • 1,000 requests per day
  • 10GB of storage

Here's what has changed in the Free plan:

  • All Free Workspaces must belong to an Organization.
  • You won't be able to create new Free Workspaces until you've created an Organization.
  • Limits for the Free plan apply at the Organization level, not the Workspace level.
  • Your Free plan is limited to 0.5 vCPU and includes 300 vCPU hours per month.
  • Your Free plan is limited to 10 queries per second and 0.5GB of memory per query.
  • There are no longer any hard limits on the number of Copies you can create.

You still cannot create Sinks on the Free plan.

Pro → Developer

The legacy Pro plan is now called the Developer plan.

Pricing based on vCPU usage, not processed data

Compute pricing for these plans is no longer based on processed data, but vCPU hours. Plan limits and billing amounts are now calculated per Organization, instead of per Workspace.

Plan sizes and limits

You can choose from five (5) Developer plans based on vCPU size, ranging from 0.25 vCPU to 3 vCPU. The choice in size determines your number of available active vCPU hours. Additional consumed vCPU hours incur an added overage cost per hour.

The plan size determines the maximum allowed query concurrency, ranging from 5 QPS to 60 QPS, and the allowed memory per query, ranging from 0.5 GB to 9 GB per query.

You can see all Developer plans on the Tinybird pricing page.

Autoscaling

Every Developer plan includes autoscaling up to 2x the rated vCPU. For example, a 1 vCPU plan can operate continuously at 2 vCPU. Note that this will consume available vCPU hours at twice the rate. For example, if you have a 1 vCPU plan with 600 vCPU hours per month, but operate continuously at 2 vCPU, you'll consume 600 vCPU hours in 300 hours (12.5 days).

Burst mode

In addition, Developer plans include "burst mode", where you may temporarily exceed the 2x autoscaled limit. The frequency and duration for which you may exceed 2x depends on the selected plan, and "burst mode" is subject to a 30-minute refractory period with 50% reduced query concurrency.

Developer plan costs

Developer plans are billed monthly and range from $25/month to $299/month. Additional vCPU hours are billed at $0.162/hour for these plans.

These plans include 25GB of storage. Additional storage is billed at $0.058/GB.

As with the legacy Pro plan, data transfer is billed at $0.01/GB for intra-cloud transfer and $0.10/GB for inter-cloud transfer.

You can upgrade to these plans directly from the Tinybird app.

Developer plan resources

Full pricing details for Developer plans can be found on the Tinybird pricing page.

For more information on how we calculate vCPU usage, storage, and overages, refer to our billing docs.

Enterprise

For customers who require dedicated infrastructure or other Enterprise features such as SSO, we continue to offer our Enterprise plan. These plans start at 4 vCPUs and may be created on shared or dedicated infrastructure. The plans include at least 1 TB storage, increased query concurrency and memory limits, dedicated support hours, and performance + support SLAs.

Enterprise plan pricing is now based on credits, with different Tinybird services consuming certain amounts of credits per time period.

Creating an Organization

A core part of this pricing transition is the introduction of Organizations for all plans. Organizations allow you to group and administrate all of your Tinybird Workspaces on a single billing plan.

You must have an Organization to create new Workspaces or migrate existing Workspaces to a new plan. You'll be prompted to create a new Organization when you log in to app.tinybird.co for the first time after this change.

All new plans must belong to an Organization. You''ll be prompted to create an Organization the next time you login.

Migrating to new plans

Below are instructions and guidelines for migrating your existing Workspaces to new plans.

Migrating legacy Build plans to the new Free plan

Your existing Build plan Workspaces will continue to operate on the legacy pricing model, with per Workspace limits, until you create an Organization or upgrade. You will be prompted to create an Organization in the Tinybird UI.

You can create an Organization at any time. All Workspaces for which you are an admin will be assigned to that Organization and upgraded to the new Free plan. Free plan limits will apply.

You will not be allowed to create new Workspaces or upgrade existing Workspaces until you have created an Organization.

Any Workspaces that you want to upgrade must be upgraded to a new Developer plan, not the legacy Pro plan.

Migrating legacy Pro plans to the new Developer plan

Your existing paid (Pro) Workspaces will continue to operate on the legacy Pro plan, with pricing based on processed data and storage, until one of the following happens:

  1. You create an Organization and migrate your plan
  2. The Pro plan sunset date - April 29th, 2025 - occurs.

If your Workspace currently operates on a Pro plan, you'll be prompted to migrate to a Developer plan the next time you log in. In addition, we've created a tool in the UI to estimate your new plan and costs based on your past month's usage.

When you migrate to a new plan, you'll be able to estimate your costs and select the right plan based on the last 30 days of activity on your Workspaces.

All Pro plans must be migrated to a new Developer plan by the sunset date, April 29th, 2025. If you do not migrate to a new plan by the sunset date, your existing Pro Workspaces will be downgraded to a Free plan and subject to its limits.

Once you create an Organization, all free and paid Workspaces for which you are an admin will be assigned to the Organization, and subject to the selected plan of that Organization.

Spending less than $25/month on your current Pro plan?
We recognize that a price increase can cause headaches. The minimum Developer plan price is $25/month, so we're offering a discount to legacy Pro Workspaces currently spending <$25 a month. If that's you, keep an eye out for an email from our Product Solutions team.

Enterprise migrations

If you are currently on an Enterprise plan, you'll be contacted by your dedicated support representative in case you need migration assistance.

Observability

As a part of this transition, Tinybird is committed to providing much-improved pricing observability. Within the Tinybird web UI, you'll find pricing observability for the new plans in your Organization admin console.

Once you've upgraded, you'll find a "Usage" tab where you can monitor plan usage against limits for vCPU time, queries per second, and memory.

A screenshot of the Tinybird UI showing usage metrics.
You can track your usage against your billing plan in the Usage tab of your Organization admin console.

In addition, you can query Tinybird service data sources to calculate ad hoc metrics and produce observability endpoints for consumption in Datadog, Grafana, or other third-party observability services.
